Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) offers deep healing and integration.  KAP has shown to be effective for depression, anxiety post-traumatic stress disorder, and eating disorders. KAP allows you to access the subconscious mind in a different way and then we use integration to reprogram the mind, body, and nervous system.

Ketamine Treatment is currently the only legal psychedelic treatment available in California and I am able to offer it in person as well as online.  In person can be done in my designated treatment space or in your home.

If you are interested in Ketamine Assisted Treatment, please note that I am contracted with a provider that can take insurance for the medical assessment, but the medication, which is dispensed to you, and the actual Ketamine Journey session are out of pocket only.  Integration sessions will be billed at my normal therapy rate.

FAQ’s About Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a legal, safe, and highly effective medication used to treat various mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and eating disorders.

Ketamine works by changing some things in your brain to help boost your mood and decrease stress.  Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can take effect within 1-2 hours of treatment.  Studies have shown that Ketamine has been shown to enhance neuroplasticity, which helps change thought processes leading to better mental health.

Ketamine is available in a few ways including IV, injection, nasal spray, or sublingual lozenges.  At Seasons of Change, we utilize sublingual lozenges, which are prescribed to you through a provider.

How Does Ketamine Feel?

Most people describe the effects of Ketamine to be pleasant and the effects last about 45 minutes.  It is common to feel disconnected from your body and to feel a shift in awareness that can have a profound impact on your thoughts and feelings.

You may have reduced muscle function and difficulty speaking, which is why I provide a safe and comfortable environment for your session.  You are welcome to move around if needed and I will always be there to support you.

After the initial effect wears off, you will have the space you need to process and reflect on your experience.

Ketamine Treatment Path

Step 1: Schedule a consultation call to find out if ketamine therapy is a good option for you.

Step 2: You will schedule an appointment with me so we can get to know each other.  Please anticipate two or three appointments to prepare for your Ketamine Journey and set intensions for your treatment.

Step 3: You will have a video evaluation with a prescribing doctor at Journey Clinical, the medical team I am contracted with, and they will determine if ketamine is right  for you.  Once approved, medication will be sent to you.

Step 4: We set up your ketamine series.  Each session lasts around three hours and involves laying down in a comfortable position.  I will guide you through your journey with the assistance of music and guided meditation.  We will have a session the following day to help consolidate your experience.

How Many Ketamine Treatment Sessions Are Recommended?

Although each journey holds the potential for profound transformation, it is important to know that most individuals require multiple ketamine treatments to fully embrace the valuable insights offered by this medicine.  The recommended protocol is six medication sessions and six integration sessions.  Some individuals benefit from occasional ongoing treatment.  However, I understand that everyone is unique and I want to ensure that we find a journey experience that fits your needs.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.  Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.  You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.  You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.  If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
